Garden of Tales

Live Storytelling Performance
Age: 11+
Running time: 60 mins
Author and storyteller: Daiva Ivanauskaitė

Step into the garden, luscious in summer and white with snow in winter. Sit under the blossoming branches, taste the apple from the tree of life. Listen to stories from the worlds above, below and our own in between. Lithuanian storyteller Daiva Ivanauskaitė introduces you to traditional stories woven with songs of her Baltic country.

In this uplifting and feel-good performance, Daiva tells stories inspired by Lithuanian hanging straw gardens – a model of the universe with heaven, the underworld, and our human world in between. The stray garden is also a symbol of the cycle of life: love, birth and death. The tales are rich with trees and plants, heavenly and underworld creatures, and Lithuanian songs about gardens.

This storytelling performance was commissioned and developed with the support from Scottish International Storytelling Festival, Lithuanian Culture Institute, and Lithuanian Embassy in the UK as a part of Lithuanian Days in Scotland.
